Grammuki Privacy Policy

This page explains what the Grammuki app collects, why, and who it is shared with. Grammuki is a grammar-practice app for iOS and Android. Most of this website only shows what the app does and holds this policy; the one exception is the early-access sign-up form, covered separately below.

Early-access sign-up (this website)

If you join the early-access list on grammuki.com before the app launches, we collect the email address you enter, the date you signed up, and whether you ticked that you'd like to be considered for the 14-day early beta. This is stored in a private Google Sheet, not in the app's own systems, and is used only to email you about Grammuki's launch, to run the launch prize draw, and, for anyone who ticked the beta box, to invite a limited number of people to test the app before general release. A hidden field on the form helps filter out automated sign-ups; it does not identify you. We do not use this list for anything beyond Grammuki's launch, and you can ask to be removed from it at any time by emailing admin@grammuki.com.

Account and sign-in

• Creating an account needs an email address and a password. There is no guest mode: an account is required to use the app.
• We use your email address to identify you, let you sign in on more than one device, and keep your practice in sync.
• Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider (Supabase Auth) and are never visible to us as plain text.
• You choose a display name, which the app uses in greetings such as "Ready, Anna?".

What we collect and store

Once you are signed in, your account holds:

• Practice history: which exercises you completed and when, how long you practised, and your daily streak.
• Grammar patterns: the patterns Grammuki has noticed in your speech and writing, and how independently you can use each one (for example, whether you still need a hint, or use it without help). This is what lets Grammuki bring a pattern back later, in a new situation, to check it has become automatic, without telling you in advance which one is being tested. That quiet re-checking is a core part of how the app works, not a hidden extra.
• Settings: your display name, notification and reminder preferences, and your chosen background colour.

Your voice and your speech

• The app listens to you speak using your device's own, on-device speech recognition. Recording, if your device briefly buffers audio to do this, is never saved and never leaves your device.
• Only the resulting text, or anything you type instead, is used to check your grammar.
• If you write a plan for what you are about to say (the "plan what you'll say" step), that written text is treated the same way as anything else you type.

Grammar analysis

To work out what to correct, and to spot a pattern worth testing again later, your transcribed or typed answers are sent to our server and then to an AI service for analysis. Only text is sent, never audio. The patterns this finds are saved with your account, as described above.

Audio you hear

Some exercises (Listen, and Read & Retell) play a short recording of a computer-generated voice reading a sentence aloud, so you can practise listening. These recordings are made in advance from the exercise text itself; nothing you say is used to make them. Playing a clip may fetch it from a Grammuki web address, which reveals your device's general network address to that server in the same way any web request does; no personal or account data is sent with that request.

Payments and subscriptions

• A subscription unlocks the full set of practice exercises.
• Payment is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play, whichever store you downloaded Grammuki from. Grammuki never receives or stores your card details.
• We keep basic subscription status (active, plan, renewal date) so the app knows what to unlock for you.

Analytics

• We use PostHog, a product analytics tool, to see which features are used and where people run into trouble.
• Events are linked to an internal account identifier, not your name or email address.
• You can ask us to stop this at any time by emailing us.

Emails

We use Resend to send account-related emails: confirming your email address and resetting your password. We do not send marketing email unless you separately ask to hear from us.

Who receives your data

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Deleting your account

You can sign out and permanently delete your account and its data at any time from the app's Account screen. Deletion removes your practice history, your grammar patterns, and your settings, and cannot be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play; cancel that separately in your Apple ID or Google Play settings.

Children's privacy

Grammuki is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at the email below and we will delete it.

Policy updates

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the app or the law. When we do, the revised version will appear on this page with a new date.
